IPL Photofacials

About this treatment
Skin Photorejuvenation is an excellent treatment to create more youthful healthy skin. This non-invasive treatment is often performed on the
This treatment helps improve the brown and red areas of pigmentation and texture such as fine lines and pores. There is no downtime and minimal discomfort and risk. It is the perfect treatment for those wanting a brighter, firmer complexion while still enjoying daily activities.

This treatment is approximately 30-45 minutes long depending on the treatment area. Your skin will first be cleansed prior to beginning the treatment. You will be provided protective eye shields or glasses to wear during the treatment. A cool gel will be applied to the treatment area. The treatment will then begin by placing the Alma Hand piece on the area. Surrounding you, there will be a pattern of pulses that will look similar to a camera flash. Although the treatment is tolerable, most clients assimilate the feel of Photorejuvenation to small rubber bands snapping on the skin. This feeling only lasts during the treatment application. Once complete, the skin will feel and appear warm like a blushing sensation. The gel will then be removed from the area, your skin will be cleansed again. Sunblock will also be applied, as you will be sun sensitive. You may apply makeup immediately following and go about your regular daily activities, avoiding excessive sun exposure.

What happens during this treatment?
As the light is applied to the skin, the pigments in the skin absorbs the light energy. The brown pigments (melanocytes) will heighten and get darker in color as they surface and then naturally slough off the skin within one week after your treatment (please do not pick at these areas, doing so may result in scarring), After the sloughing process, the skin will have a more even skin tone. The red pigments will slowly dissipate into the skin tissue, leaving a more even skin complexion. The heat from the light energy will warm the skin causing collagen stimulation. Over the few months following treatment, the skin will gradually appear brighter and firmer. Treatments are generally recommended in a series of 5 sessions, performed 3-4 weeks apart for optimal results. Some clients may require more treatments.

What equipment do we use?
A device by the company Alma called Harmony, which uses Intense Pulsed Light and Laser to treat the skin.

What skin features can the treatment improve?
The equipment that we use can improve:

Brown Spots (Sun Spots or Solar Lentigos)
  Small Spider Veins (Telangiectasias)
  Fine Lines
  Post-inflammatory Pigmentation
  Redness and flushing
  Pore Size

There may also be temporary improvement in:

These conditions require maintenance treatment to reduce recurrence of condition.

What is the pre-treatment care?

It is most important to make sure that the treatment area is not exposed to the sun for 2 weeks prior to treatment. This includes tanning beds, self-tanners and any pigment enhancing process for the skin. Sun exposure will make the skin sensitive to absorbing the treatment light more easily, which increases risk for potential side effects. Daily use of sunblock with SPF30 or higher will assist in reducing sun exposure, but will not do enough if you are regularly outside. If your skin is tan at the time of treatment, or if you had recent exposure to the sun (ie: watching a soccer game, baseball game), We will delay your treatment to a later date to reduce risk of side effects.
What is the post-treatment care?
Avoid sun exposure for two weeks following each treatment as you will be more sun sensitive and could compromise the results of the treatment.

Can all skin types be treated?
***Fitzpatrick Skin Type VI (dark black skin) and some Skin Types V (moderately dark skin) are not normally treated with this technology.

Am I a good candidates?
The best candidates for this procedure are people with early signs of sun damage, aging skin, freckles, red pigmented areas associated with acne marks and rosacea. It is an excellent treatment for those who suffer from redness and flushing of the face.

Please note this procedure is not recommended for pregnant women.

What results can I expect?
With a series of 5 treatments, one should expect an overall improvement in the appearance of their skin, including a lighter more even complexion and smoother texture, with a bright, firm appearance.

When can I expect results?
Results gradually develop with each treatment while textural improvement can occur for a few months following treatment. The brown spots (solar lentigos) that are treated will get darker before resolving. It is important to not pick at these areas during the natural desquamation (sloughing) process of the skin.

Photos of the treatment area will be taken prior to your first treatment and at the completion of the program. Additional photographs may be taken as needed.

Side effects can include:
Erythema (or redness/flushing) of the skin for up to 48 hours following treatment
Edema (mild swelling)
Darkening of solar lentigos (brown spots) prior to lightening
Hypo (light) and hyper (dark) pigmentation
Blisters, which if treated improperly can lead to infection and scars
Striping (a pattern of irregularly treated skin) which generally resolves with consecutive treatments
Mild bruising
Cold sores (if you are already prone to Herpes Simplex Virus in the treated area)
Hair loss in treatment area
